You made a great choice. The 57/58 definitely takes the bang for the buck award. Stick that puppy in the front of the speaker and crank it up as loud as you want, you're not going to hurt it. I recently got a chance to A/B a bunch of differnent vocal mics in the studio, including crazy stuff like vintage tube Neumanns, etc. The SM58 stacked up pretty favorably, especially considering the price. The SM58 is a little better for vocs because of the windscreen and for amps it's a wash. So it sounds like you bought the right mic.
