What is a good shotgun mic?
Answer:
It's not that one mike is 'better' than the other, it's proximity to the sound source. You can get a lav right up close. A shotgun with a good element will sound even better...provided you can get IT up close, too. This is why movie sound crews use shotguns mounted on booms. A camera mounted microphone at 6-8 feet from the talent just isn't going to sound real great.
