Is there a way to disable the speaker on a speaker/microphone in such a way as to return the audio output back to the radio's internal speaker?

Question:
Is there a way to disable the speaker on a speaker/microphone in such a way as to return the audio output back to the radio's internal speaker? I have a handheld that is often used on my desk and would like the audio to come from the better quality speaker within the radio rather than the speaker in the microphone.

Answer:
My speaker/mic connector is different from that of Frank's HT. I have 2 Santec HTs, a 144uP and a 142. Both take a mini 6-pin DIN with screw-on sleeve. I had to attack the problem from the mic. itself. I found an old micro-mini SPST slide switch from something long forgotten in my junk box. I had to drill 4 tiny holes in the mic. housing. One for each end of the switch for mounting screws, and two side-by-side for the slide. I dressed the two holes up with a micro-file, cut and prepped the wires going to the speaker portion of the mic., mounted the switch after checking the circuit for function and put the mic back together. Now, when I use the speaker/mic, I can turn the remote speaker off while the main speaker stays on in the HT, or turn on the remote speaker if I need to hold it closer to my ear in a noisy environment. The speaker inside the HT stays on all the time no matter what is done with the spkr/mic.
