Question:
I have a Performa 6300CD running MacOS 7.6.1. The microphone on the Mac starts to generate lound whirling sound (much like we often heard from a stage microphone) when I try to record some voice in Simple Text. How can I know whether it is a problem with the microphone only, or mac?

Answer:
It is called feedback. Since you are using Mac OS 7.6.1, just go into Monitors and Sound and disable playthru.
