Question:
It's dude times. I'm trying to decide my self to choose an stereo mic. I work as sound mixer on documentaries and on many diferent situations as you can imagine. I know that the best option should be Shoeps, but I've been searching information about many models and brands. Those are the options: SANKEN CSS-5 SANKEN CMS-7s AUDIO-TECHNICA AT815ST OR AT835ST PEARL MSH10 Any other option? which of the adove is the best choice?
Answer:
I've been using the CSS-5 for awhile on various documentary style shoots. I like it for its flexibility because it can also be a mono short shotgun. It has a switch to select stereo or mono, but if it's in a zeppelin, you can leave the switch in stereo and just unplug the right leg of the Y cable to get the hypercardioid output. That's a really convenient quick change from stereo ambience to overhead dialog.
