Question:
I have currently set my mind of getting an X-Box, for sure, and had quite a few questions. After the DC died, I have pretty much ignored everything that has anything to do with the new systems.... 1. The X-Box comes with a Hard Drive? If so, how big is it? Also, if it does, does that mean you don't have to buy the memory card(or whatever the X-Box has)? 2. What is this DOA 3 Booster Pack I have heard about? What does it do? Is it possible to still get one? 3. What is this X-Box Live thing? Do you have to subscribe to play games online with the X-Box? 4. The X-Box has a broadband modem in it, right? If so, you can use your existing BB service on it? 5. They are still $199? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

> 1. The X-Box comes with a Hard Drive? If so, how big is it? Also, if it > does, does that mean you don't have to buy the memory card(or whatever > the X-Box has)? Yes the XBox does have a hard drive, I believe it comes with a 10 gigabyte hard drive if I remember correctly. So you can save games to the hard drive if you wish to without purchasing a memory card. The memory card is handy for transferring savegames to a friend's XBox though. You can also add a larger hard drive if you don't mind voiding your warranty with a bit of hacking. > 2. What is this DOA 3 Booster Pack I have heard about? What does it do? > Is it possible to still get one? The booster back has been on a couple of Official XBox Magazine DVDs and I believe the last time it appeared was a month ago, I don't think they plan on putting it on the disc again. However if you want to get it I'm sure you can either ask OXM for a way to acquire it or ask somebody nicely if you can have their's. What it does is adds new costumes for the characters and it has a new opening movie (can't seem to load it to the HD though) for the game as well. > 3. What is this X-Box Live thing? Do you have to subscribe to play > games online with the X-Box? XBox Live is currently in it's beta testing stages and should be released officially in about a month. You do have to subscribe to play games over the Live service but there are other ways to play online without it for free. The XBox Live service initial cost is $50 for a year, that's for the startup kit which also includes the headset with the microphone. Nobody seems to know if they're going to charge $50 a year or what the deal will be insofar after the first year, guess we'll have to see. The other option is using a program like XBConnect to play over the net. This will only work if the game supports the system link cable feature though. > 4. The X-Box has a broadband modem in it, right? If so, you can use your > existing BB service on it? More accurately it has a network interface card (NIC for short) that allows you to hook it into your broadband service. You'll either have to provide a hub or router depending upon how your broadband service is setup. Just a little nitpick, unless you're on cable modem what you refer to as a DSL modem is NOT a modem at all. It is more like a network bridge, the more sophisticated models (like my Cisco 675) have router functionaliy as well. Sorry it's just one of my little pet peeves. > 5. They are still $199? Yep they are still $199 and now there is a mail-in rebate available so that you get the DVD Playback kit for free.
