Question:
Can anyone suggest a portable keyboard (i.e. Yamaha, Casio) for songwriting? I know almost any will do, but I'm wondering if there's anything out there with good features. Ideally, I'm looking for a keyboard with mini keys, a decent piano sound, and a multitrack scratchpad type sequencer where I can enter in song ideas. I'd also like it to be able to program drum patterns. MIDI is great, but not necessary. I'd LOVE to see something like a Yamaha QY-70 with a mini-sized keyboard attached to it (instead of those insipid little buttons), but I know no such thing exists. BTW, I'm no newbie to keyboards, I've been into MIDI since 1985, but I'm totally clueless as to what's out there in the portable keyboard market these days
Answer:
In my opinion, you would be beter looking for a second hand Korg i3 or similar machine which has what amounts to a mini 16 track studio built in. Of course it's not quite the same, and it is also more of a full size key, but what an invaluable writing workstation. I am sure there are many other machines like these, but a lot will depend on budget and expectation.
