I am considering buying a keyboard as a present to help a young kid learn how to play. Ideally, I am looking for a solution that could scale up, i.e. one in which the hardware/software combination involved whould be able to accomodate from simple tunes to complex songs. >From what I 've seeen on the web, it seems that a MIDI keyboard (e.g., a Yamaha PSR) would do the job. For instance, Casio offers the LK series, in which keys are lit according to the MIDI notes to be played next. Has anyone used any of those (or similar) products? Can you really convert and play any song in Casio's MIDI format (CM2)? Any downsides? Alternatively, would a generic keyboard with some software application (e.g., the Keyboard Coach by CSDC, or the Piano Teacher by Voyetra) be a better solution? Which keyboard and application would you recommend in that case?
