Question:
I noticed that many of the sounds used in todays dance/trance hits are the same, which makes me think that most top dance (as in UK trance) producers/remixers like Riva use the same presets of a particular synth. This is a list of songs that have quite similar sounds: - Riva remix of Iio's Rapture - Riva with Dannii Minogue: Who do you love know - Orion Too: You and me (this one has a very similar intro as the Riva remix of Iio's Rapture) - Coast to Coast: Home - 4 Strings: Take me away/Into the Night - and probably some more Now, as they all seem to use the same presets (most producers don't program there own sounds that often you know), does anyone recognize which synth(s) was used, esp. in the Riva remix of Iio's Rapture which has a very distinct sound (like the arpeggiated intro which could be something owners of the same synth would recognize?!). I think it could be the Access Virus, but I haven't spend much time with it in the store yet to figure it out. Anyone recognizes those presets from there own synths?!
Answer:
dunno about that list, but yes, the access virus B is a very sought after synth, with some really wikkid sounds in it.. The novation nova was used for alot of big trance sounds, but I think the nova sound is being played out.. I also like the Clavia Nord Lead, but since it has no built in FX, you have to run it thru some another virtual analog synth keyboard that has been getting big lately is the Korg MS2000... You still hear a lot of JP8000 sounds as well out there and i've also noticed a fair few sounds off the Emu XL1 on drum n bass and also garage (spit) tunes ...sorry.. not a fan of most garage, just notice shit when the radio's on in the background.. Synth to watch out for.. the Novation A-Station (or K-Station).. this is NOT just a cut down Supernova, it has a filter on it which the Nova's/Supernova's don't and it sounds just AWESOME!. In fact i prefer it's sound overall in general compared to the flagship Supernova.. so there's my hot tip for synth purchase.. get an A-Station, it's only mono-timbral..but what a lush sound
