Question:
Can anyone help me with this problem? I've just switched over to Cubase SE from Cubasis VST 3 keeping the same P.C. system. On my previous program There was always a mili second latency problems with VST synths. I solved this problem by using the P.C. synth to record the MIDI + then switch to VST for the playback. On the new program the latency issue is awful on both types of synths. Live playing has a slight delay but playback results in th e delay being even longer. I remember on Cubasis being able to access features such as 'half-duplex' etc which seemed to solve a lot of problems. On the new program I cant find these commands? Would finding these help me with the problems? Do I need to do something else?
Answer:
Use the ASIO driver associated with your soundcard. Which is?? We all get latency when playing software synths live. Better sound cards and faster computers can yield lower latency, so low in fact, that no latency is detectable by mere mortals. But if you use a VST Instrument (e.g. Universal Sound Module), then Cubase will compensate for latency on playback (still get latency whilst playing the keys live though) It sounds like you might be using the Microsoft software synth (the one that is part of windows) or perhaps another software synth that came with your soundcard. These always have latency. One solution is to use a hardware synth for playing the keys live and then switch to a better quality VSTi synth for playback. What soundcard do you have? What computer specs? What OS? Any other music hardware? Answer these and we can take it from there.
