How do you assign different tracks with different midi channels to the L/R audio outputs ?

Tagged As: V Synth

Question:
I recently purchased the Roland V-synth. It's an incredible instrument but I'm having trouble dealing with the multitimbral aspect. My sequencer is Digital Performer 3.11. running on Mac OS 9.2. I assume that the V-synth uses midi channels 1-16. When I create a new V-synth track in Performer and assign it to a midi channel other than channel 1 nothing happens. How do you assign different tracks with different midi channels to the L/R audio outputs. The manual is quite vague about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I've never used a Vsynth, but you probably want to make sure that the instrument is in 'omni' MIDI mode. This is the mode that allows multimbral instruments to receive individual 'parts' on separate MIDI channels. Have you installed the 1.5 upgrade? It makes things slightly easier (especially where setting patches is concerned) although the V-Synth is primarily designed for performance and multitimbral operation isn't too slick at best. I also recommend joining the Yahoo V-Group.
