Has anybody got a patch for my Korg X3?

Tagged As: Korg X3

Question:
Has anybody got a patch for my Korg X3, i am specifically looking for a nice Piano as used to be on the DX7 Yamaha or Korg M1. I have loaded Piano patches from all the Korg X3 sites but they all sound thin and lack treble / mid range clarity. I even loaded up the emulated sounds of the M1 but the piano on this sounded the same as the 16ft grand patch of the X3. Maybe a user modified patch would do the trick but i dont know what pameters to alter to achieve this. Somebody did tell me that the piano sound on the X3 and the M1 were exactly the same, but i am not convinced. thanks

Answer:
I use an O1/Wfd and I'm not sure if the X3 has 32 voices instead of the 16 found on the T series. However, the best path I've found should still apply. Layer the 8 and 16 foot pianos, then mix in some strings to taste BELOW the piano waves proper, which will give it some added perceived depth and resonance. If you have voices available after that, mix in a bass string patch of your choosing and set it as high into the midrange as you can before it becomes tweezed-out and too obvious. This will make your bass meatier and hopefully extend your midrange so as to address that thin tone you mention. Add in some plate or hall reverb and make it as thick as suits your ear. Pan the pianos just a bit left and right for some spread, either at the patch level within the Combi, or in the FX processor itself. Doing all this led me to a very serviceable piano good for most anything but those mad Rachmaninoff runs!
