Question:
I'm a beginner playing synth. and i probably will choose a Korg X5D. Can you help me : - First, is the X5D a good choice ? - Where are the X5D limits ? - With my PC (Pentium-133 & Windows 95) and an Ensoniq Sound Card (with a General Midi/Joystick Port), is there any problems and limits with this keyboard ? - Where can i found informations (NewsGroups, Web sites & Mailling Lists) about the X5D, and the use of my PC with this keyboard ? Here is a lot of questions but I just begin in this fabulus world !
Answer:
I think so, yes. It's not expensive, it's got lots of polyphony, and some good sounds. Pretty good pianos, electric piano, and organs. And for organ, it's got a nice Leslie simulator. Many of the other sounds are good too, especially in Program mode. As far as GM mode, it's not bad. Of course, GM is kind of limited in itself. The cool thing about the X5D is the versatility. I would suggest using it in Global mode or Multi mode rather than GM mode. Actually, the ideal thing is to use it in Program mode, because then you get to use the effects processor for one patch only. But if it's your only sound source, you probably won't want to do that except when playing live.
