Tagged As: How To Play The Piano
Question:
I've been taking 75-minute piano lessons weekly for just more than a year. It's a very hard grind but it's going well, given my objectives. My first goal is to play well enough to entertain my grandchildren -- they're barely at the Twinkle stage, so there's time. My second goal is to become a better listener to the classical music we love by learning the fundamentals of music. My extraordinary piano teacher and I have agreed our target is to get me to the point where I can play any tune that comes to mind in any key..Why are you learning the piano? This can be a fun thread. Thanks very much.
Answer:
For me, it's not just something I want to do, but something I need. If I don't eat I get hungry. If I don't play, then my fingers and mind get hungry for the piano. As a man, I suppose I could also view it as a way of expressing emotions that I can't - or won't - express in other ways. The piano is a 'legitimate' option for male emotional expression in a western industrialised country.
