Question:
I am a guitarist and, I must admit, quite ignorant about synthesizers. I often see the mini moog listed on old prog albums. What was distinctive about this synth? Was there also a maxi moog?
Answer:
The MiniMoog was a monophonic collection of analogue modules that used three oscillators for one note. It had a fairly fat, distinctive sound, and didn't stay in tune longer than 5 minutes, max. It offered instant real-time modifi- cation of it's filter parameters during performance, and wouldn't stay in tune. Plus, it wouldn't stay in tune (by now, I *think* you can see what my problem with the MiniMoog was).
