Question:
I recently heard a recording of the origional Moog synthesizer in a performance, and wondered--Is it possible to find out how to make these? Note--this is not an invitation for 20 people to tell me that it's outdated and I can do sooo much more with my clone; I just want to know if it is possible to find plans/kits for a Moog.
Answer:
Far from being out-dated. Analogue Subtractive Synthesizers are right en Vogue at the moment. Vintage synths as they are generically known fetch quite high prices if you can find them. The principals are well known and tried and tested. Having been originally invented By Bob Moog (Pronounced Vogue) in the late 50s. The data peratining specifially to any of the Moog Brand of synthezizers would be hard to find. However, Every manufactuer and his dog made a version of them. The basic principal is to start with a harmonically rich waveform such as a square wave then filter out the harmonics you don't want. Amplitude contolling the result for the envelope and you have you're basic Subtractive analogue synthesizer. There are several List servers dedicated to synthesis but analogue heaven is probably the one you want.
