Help on new guitar

Question:
OK guys here’s my question.  I started playing a battered electric about 2 years ago.  About a year ago I bought a new Tanglewood Blackmountiain acoustic guitar - plays great and I can now bang out a few decent acoustic tunes.  However I want to now get a new electric - start playing some electric blues / rock.  I have recently bought a Peavey Blazer amp and it sounds great - even with my really old electric.  Question is - I want a new electric guitar for around £250.  What is my best option?  Epiphone LP, Mexican Fender, Vintage SG? Should I buy something second hand - therefore getting a better guitar for a second hand price? There is so much out there!!!

Answer:
I'd get something secondhand, although Vintage guitars are quite highly rated by some (I've never played one).  I doubt you'd be able to get an Epiphone LP for £250 new. You'd be able to get something pretty decent for £250 secondhand. There is, indeed. The only thing to do is to haul your Blazer round the stores and play all the guitars you can find in your price range until you find one you like. From your question (and the list of guitars in it) I guess you have to listen to a lot of guitars before you find out what kind of sound you like - Epi LP's sound very different from Mex. Fenders (which are a sub group in themselves) which sound different from Gibson made solid bodies etc. Find out what your ideal tone is and then refine the hunt. What is your old guitar? And why do you want a different one if it sounds great?
