Question:
If I had to make a request for a guitar I would LOVE too see Epiphone make it would be this. 23 1/2 inch scale neck, ebony fingerboard. Well, maybe I could live with rosewood. ;) Plus, I could tuck a raccoon tail in the back of my pants and go for the Uncle Ted look! Seriously though, would this be a great move by Epiphone or what? Make it an Elite Epiphone and charge about a grand for it. Much better that the 6-12K some pay for the real deal. I have always loved these guitars.
Answer:
You are correct about the difference in cutaways. Florentine cutaways (the sharp one) started in 1961 IIRC, before that they were Venetian (round). I'm not sure if they ever switched back later or not... The only Byrdland I ever played was an early 1960's model, it was *so* SWEET! I'd love to try the Epi version. I'm no expert on Ted, but I think I've only seen him with the later Florentine style.
