Question:
Does anyone know if anyone has ever written a program which can convert a sheet music scan to guitar TAB? I've been thinking of doing research in this area, but shan't bother if someone else already has! The main problem I see, apart from working out how to make the actual translation, is actually scanning in the sheet of music. Is there any program out there that can do this?
Answer:
I don't think what you're asking would be possible, direct scan to notation, but... what would be great is an application that would be able to take a file format (other that a standard midi file), a special format which would include BOTH notations (music and tab) and be able to print it on several printers, say a windows application which you could print it on your DESKJET. Then we would be able to get tab notation on the net to look a lot more professionnal... having the rhythm as well as the notes. I don't think it exists yet, for we would be using this kind of format already, but I wonder if there might be something like this on the net. I thought of getting into such a project too, recently, being frustrated not having the actual rhythm of one really well done part, but I can't do it right now (I'd need some time !).
