Question:
I have a line on a used Epiphone ES-295 but it doesn't come with a case. I have an SKB for my Strat and it seems good but I don't know if they make SKB cases for archtop electrics which are about 3 inches deep (or thick as some might think of it). Not to mention it has a Bigsby type vibrato on it. If there are SKBs like that how much do they run for? Also, how are TKL cases? Are they any good? Or are SKB better? How much do the TKL cases cost too? How much are the Guild cases too? Maybe a Guild case would work. I don't mind the guitar saying Epiphone and the case saying Guild. Last but not least, how to Epiphone cases compare to TKL, SKB, and Guild and any others that might fit the guitar. Gretsch is another one that comes to mind but those might be even more than Guild cases.
Answer:
I have decided just to order an Epiphone case for the ES-295. I'm glad that the last poster just verified that the Epiphone case is made by TKL. I guess for Fender the cases made for Fender are by SKB and for Epiphones or Martins they are made by TKL. I think the Epiphone cases are less expensive than the TKL cases so I'll go for the Epiphone. I can find new Epi cases for $80.00. I figure that the Epiphone case is a good case even though it's probably not the same as the more expensive or higher up the line TKL cases. But it's probably less than an equivalent TKL brand case. I was almost thinking of getting a Gretsch case because I plan on buying a Gretsch 6120TM sometime down the line and when I get that guitar I'd have a Gretsch case already and would deal with getting another case for the Epi later. I did find out though that the Gretsch cases are not very inexpensive so I'll pass on that. I just thought if they are about the same as Epi cases I'd go for a Gretsch case. Didn't matter if it says Gretsch though and the guitar says Epiphone because the Gretsch cases are good and I could use it later when I get a 6120TM later down the line.
