Does anyone has more experience about Yamaha P120 ?

Tagged As: Yamaha P120 Keyboard

Question:
Any Yamaha P120 owners here? I currently have a Clavinova CLP920 but am thinking about moving to something more portable. The P120 looks a neat little package, but how does it compare to the Clav in terms of: * Stability: The Clav cabinet is pretty solid at the expense of portability. How does a P120 with matching L120 stand bear up to home use? Does the P120 vibrate if you bang out a few chords? * Portability: The P120 weighs 40 lbs. Is it possible for a typical adult male to move this about? * Speakers: How are the P120 speakers for home practice use? Note that I only use the Clav speakers at about 1/3 volume max so I play pretty quietly! Also, does the Clav cabinet give improved sound over the P120? Action & Tone: Do the P120 and Clavs use the same keyboard action? And sound the same? Any other comparisons between these Yamaha models are welcome. I note that the P120 console seems to be not as deep as the Clav console -- have economies been made on the action mechanism?

Answer:
I have had a P-120 for about a year now and I really enjoy it. The stand is not worth the $80 you will spend on it(particle board), purchase one of those portable collapsable stands. I started out with one but switched to the other becuase of height. If I had it to do over I would definately get the non Yamaha stand. It feels more like 60 pounds, probably because of the bulk of the thing. Not to bad to move around, but help is always nice. Speakers are ample for practicing. I have a nice pair of speakers for performance as well as GigaStudio software for the sounds. Personally I could not tell the difference between the $4000 Clavinova action and the P-120's action. Of course it is hard to test them side by side becuase they don't sell Clavinova's and the P series together(in my experience).

I agree with the last posting. There's virtually no difference in action between the P120 and a Clavinova; in fact, I think the P120 is better in that category. Tough, too. I've been gigging all over Tucson for 4 years with mine. I use my own stand, and so I concur with the last post. Just find a stand that you like and that's sturdy. The P120 is really light for the kick it has. Since I mainly want the piano sound, I don't know much about the midi capabilities and such. But it's a hell of a good product. What I need is a new plexiglass music rack. Mine's shattered. I just can't find one.

I have a Yamaha p-120 and can send you some pictures of it. I am selling it. It is the closest to a piano that I have found. I bought it for school and now I am not in school so I am selling it. I barely even used it because I practiced at school. Please give me your email and I can send you some pictures.
