Question:
I am looking for a piano for my daughter, and I already found three pre-owned Yamaha pianos which are on different models, one is year 1987 MC301, one is year 1988 MC10BL mode, and the other is year 1987 U1 model. MC301 and MC10BL is at the price in my budget, and U1 is a little bit more than the budget($500 more than MC301 and MC10BL). I am thinking to buy MC301 or MC10BL, but most of my friends has U1 model. What is the major difference among these three models? Will I make a right decision if I choose MC301 or MC10BL? I know very few of Piano, if you know the answer of my question, could you please reply this message ASAP since I have to make the decision tommorrow. Your quick reply will be highly appreciated.
Answer:
It would help if you gave a bit more information starting with what country you are in. Often piano model numbers mean very little, and in the case of the ones you mention, only the U1 is a currently produced model and I have never heard of the other models. What size are they and in what country are they produced? Is there some reason you are only looking at one brand? Well, let me say going in that I can't abide the sound of any yamaha upright and most yamaha grands - however, yes there is a noticeable difference between the current U1 and U3 and the current M series. You might inquire of your dealer if he is showing you american market pianos, or gray market imports. Some models that were sold in Japan were never imported.
