Which portable keyboards (with built-in speakers) have the best sounding MIDI patches?

Tagged As: Yamaha Portable Keyboards

Question:
Which portable keyboards (with built-in speakers) have the best sounding MIDI patches? Thanks.

Answer:
I have owned a Yamaha PSR keyboard (520) and was not particularly fond of its MIDI patches - the clarinet, flute and saxes were all pretty poor. The pianos and guitars were decent. For the price, it's okay. I currently own a Technics KN5000, and find its patches superior to the PSR Yamahas, but for 4 times the price, it SHOULD be better! Some people might debate the portability of this keyboard, as it weighs a ton and you cannot run it off batteries like the PSRs. But the extra $$ and weight buys superior sound. Roland has an arranger keyboard with speakers, the G-800. It's priced between the Yamahas and the Technics, and might be a good compromise. I really like Roland's saxes and vibes. Steer clear of Casio. Radio Shack keyboards are relabeled Casios.
