Yamaha PSR 295 help -- Recording Performance ?

Tagged As: Yamaha Psr 295

Question:
I recently bought a Yamaha PSR 295 to help me re-learn piano... it works great but the USB hook up it has to the PC seems to only work one-way -- ie. I can download new midi files to the keyboard ok, but what can I do if I want to record my own performance (over the USB)?

Answer:
What do you mean by download? Are you playing the file to the keyboard with a sequencer program? or are you uploading a .MID and allowing the PSR to play it? Most USB-enabled synths allow the USB port to be set to one of two modes. In file transfer mode, you can upload standard midi files for playback. In midi mode, the port emulates a USB MIDI interface in both directions. It's possible that your board is in file transfer mode.

Then how can we do to the MIDI mode, where we can transfer what we have recorded in the Keyboard over to the Computer?

Make sure the keyboard is turned on, interface is properly connected and then launch your sequencing program. It should instantly recognize the midi connection. Once it does, just configure it to the appropriate settings. Make sure your local output (the keyboards' sound) is turned off, have the correct instrument you wish to play selected and hit record. You should be all set. I also have a PSR and use it in conjunction with FL Studio.
