I want to buy synthesizer. Reasons: For my mommy, who making music with Cakewalk Pro Audio9 and Gold Express. and for me, I have musical school skills and want to try play in rock group. I have no many money... and today I was in music shop in my city. there was: Yamaha psr 290 for $300 Yamaha psr 275 $270 yamaha osr 175 $210 yamaha psr 275 $140 (this one second/hand) And I noticed one topic where somebody selling yamaha psr 520 for $250 To say truth it will be very difficult to me pay more than $210 for synthesizer and I completely have no knowledges in what is it and how it works. And which one is good for what... I reading some info but it didn't tell me, which synthesizer will satisfy me.

The Yamaha PSR instruments are Portable Keyboards, not synthesizers. Portable Keyboards have the emphasis on ease-to-use, fast results and arranger capabilities. They are aimed at reproducing existing sounds. Synthesizers are built mainly for producing new sounds. For inputting music into the computer, a portable keyboard would be okay. For playing in a rock band, most probably not. Get a cheap MIDI master keyboard for the computer, e.g. an Evolution MK-225C or the like. For the rock band, you might start out with an instrument from the Roland XP or the Yamaha SY synth line, they should be affordable right now. If you're serious about it, consider a Korg Triton.
