guitar pickups

Tagged As: Epiphone Guitar Pickup

Question:
I have an Epiphone LesPaul Standard and a Marshall JCM900+4x12Marshall Box. But even though it's a pretty standard setup, I don't like the sound I'm getting. I want the clean to have much more attack/definition - it's just muddy right now and the distortion I get is also just a bit to inagressive (I'm playing goth metal, like maybe evanescence). Now I thought, since the amp seems to be used by a lot of those bands just like the LesPaul by Gibson, it's maybe the pickups Epiphone put in the guitar. Is it possible, that putting in some new pickups might help me? What pickups would you recommend?

Answer:
seymour duncan used to have on the website a breakdown of the characteristics of his pickups.. since some of these are modeled after classic gibson pickups, you get an idea of what each is like in comparison to each other, as well as classic pickups. I suggest you look for that, and check other manufacturers websites as well. I changed to a ceramic magnet pickup (500T) in my epiphone sheraton, at the bridge, because the les paul custom pickups I had put in it didn't quite give me the treble edge and clarity I wanted. Differing magnet strengths and materials affect the tone, of course, and I think you need to just find out what others will be like in comparison to yours. this is one way to get information and I hope you get some personal experience here, too.

Yes.... Pick ups will help immensly.. I have the same guitar.. and went through the same issue.. with both clean and distortion... I put the seymour Duncan Dimebucker pick up in at the bridge and it made a huge difference(with both attach and over all tone).. I may not stick with this pick-up for sure(its quite a dirty pick up...)... I may try a few others.. but when pick-ups go for 150$ and its easy to put them in your self.. its a great in expensive way to improve your sound.. also look at upgrading your bridge to something like a tone-pro series Bridge...
