Epiphone serial numbers

Tagged As: Epiphone Guitar Serial Number

Question:
I've been thinking about getting an Epiphone Dot, but I've been warned about ones made at Samick's factory. So, if someone knows, how can I get this information from the serial number? It is I 01090643.

Answer:
Samick makes an excellent guitar for the money. On a recent trip to a local Guitar Center, I found Samick's quality control to be better than Gibsons (comparing Les Pauls--I had to go through several Gibsons to find a good neck). Once I found a good Gibson, it was a better guitar than the Epiphones, but why were there so many dogs You CAN'T find a Dot badged as a Samick, just like you can't find a Les Paul badged as a Samick. Samick can only make Les Pauls, Dots, SG's... for Epiphone, because they are done under the Gibson patent license. Samick does make a guitar very similar to the Les Paul, but if you look the body shape, headstock, placement of the pots... they are different than the Les Paul. They may make a guitar similar to the Dot, but it will not have the same shape and specifications.
