So who the hell are ya?

Tagged As: Drum Junior Ludwig Outfit Set

Question:
since we've all shared each other's opinions on every possible drum-related topic, flamed each other repetitively, and discussed every form of percussion known to man, it thought it would be cool to find out who the hell I've been talking to. So go give us your profile- when did you start playing, what education do you have, what was your first kit, what do you play now, who have you played with, who are you playing with, what have you done with percussion, anything else you deem necessary. I look forward to meeting y'all!

Answer:
...let1s see..started drums at age...27ish...played sax for 10 years, then faked guitar and screamed in a punk band, then nothing for a few, then drums (my originally desired instrument, but we had a sax at the time). Education: BSEE First Set: Yamaha EPS-D8 (aka PTX8) electronic. (My wife worked for Yamaha and picked it up at a parking lot sale (when Yamaha took all their stock out of Guitar Center and blew out all the demos) for $150. First Acoustic Set: Yamaha Turbo Tour Custom 6 pc set (right after the Rock Tour Customs came out, so these came for $.25 on the dollar as discontinued models). Sold the EPS-D8 for about $50 less than I spent on this set... (hate me yet?) Current Set: ?65 Slingerland 4 pc (with 1 ply maple snare) Was playing with a band (Paradigm Lost), but had to quit 3 days ago, as I1m taking a new job in another city next month. We had just done our first 3 gigs, and still have to go back to the studio to finish our new demo tape. (Call it a souvenir for me, and the other guys can still use it f they find a new drummer). Started banging on things when I was three. Did the entire high school band thing, one year of drum corps, pit, county orchestra, county jazz band, Wittenburg University Jazz Band, funk-reggae band, couple hard rock bands, some recording from Broadway style to reggae to rock. NO country. Well, not yet anyway... The only 'celebrities' I have backed are Johnny Tillotson (Poetry in Motion?) and a minor bluesman from Louisville, Kentucky. Can't remember his name right now, but he has mine... ;-) Now play in a 'project-hobby' cover band, reggae-ska-light rock. Some fill in on call gigging here and there. 1st real kit was a Ludwig red sparkle 13-16-20 1966. Trashed it and sold it. Then a TAMA Royalstar 7 pc. Traded that for a Gretsch maple kit 6 pc. Added 18 inch bass and a round badge snare. I have many other percussives and a 12-14-20 red sparkle Ludwig. I work in the industry as a sales rep for a wholesale distributor/retail store supplier. We sell everything to the stores from heads to sticks, access, strings, picks, cases, etc., you name it, we prolly have it. As I only count from 5th grade as 'legitimate', I have been playing drums and percussion 22 years.
