Question:
I haven't played the Hummingbird, but the EJ-200 I tried a couple of weeks ago sounded mighty good, and seemed awfully well built. Did the sound come close to the real Gibson Hummingbird?
Answer:
I have a 70s era Epiphone that I would not trade for anything, since it is the first nice guitar I ever owned when I was a kid, but in general the Epiphones I have seen made in Korea are OK but not don't have great tone and may have minor intonation problems etc. I looked at the Humingbird copy for a few moments in a store but it really did not seem to have the ooomph of the real thing. If you have $400 dollars I would look to buy a better quality used guitar with a solid top or maybe a new Seagull. A good dealer will show you the difference in sound between a cosmetically nice guitar like the new epiphone and a better quality used guitar that may have some dings and scratches and wear.
