Question:
I haven't posted here in a long time, so be gentle! ;) I was wondering if anyone here has had drum classes with Travis, and knows what kind of grip does he use! Cause I've been watching some live blink shows, and he seems to use a lot of arms and wrists in his playing, and (apparently) not much fingers! However, this doesn't make much sense, cause for a punk type of show you'd think he'd try to spend as little energy as possible, thus using more fingers. Plus, is it possible to play THAT fast using wrists only?
Answer:
Look at the P. Diddy & the badboy family - badboy - video...travis holds his sticks like half-way or something, I still don't know why he does that... The reason why he does that is because he has a lack of strenght (chops) so he has to choke way up on the stick to get speed, to me that is called BITCH 1) I don't like Blink 182, and I don't like 90% of Travis's playing in the band. Nor do I like 90% of all modern punk music. However, it has to be said that chops-wise, Travis Barker is a capable drummer both in the single stroke department (albeit he seems to flail about a lot, maybe for show or for volume?) and with doubles and rudiments (corps work). I don't really like what he does but I can't deny that he has chops.
