Question:
A few years ago a longtime Rush fan told me a fantastic story about Neil's drum set. I think he said he heard it from a friend. Apparently, around the Exit Stage Left era, Neil's drum set was so huge that he couldn't get into it by himself, so before each concert they had to lower Neil into the drum set by some kind of crane. Then they lowered even more drums and percussion instruments around him, completely enclosing him. Is there any truth to this tale? Could it perhaps be just an exaggeration? A chemically induced hallucination? Or do we have a Rush urban legend here?
Answer:
No offense to you, Mr. Lane, but this is perhaps the most ridiculous Rush-rumor I have ever heard. Tell your friend's friend it ain't true. One small correction. There was only one floor tom (an18). As to how they got him in there, Im not sure, but with his more recent full circle drumsets, he gets in through the back, the bass drum tips and he gets in through there.
