Question:
I have no idea what I was looking for when I happened upon this site, but it seems to be interesting. It has a fair amount of information that may be useful to a few folks, but the section on collectible values was very interesting to me. The writer also has a surprising thing or two to say about appraisals. He also has something to say about new instruments and their potential for collectibility in the future. Check out the What is Vintage? and Collectability/Value sections. There's info on Gibson, Martin, Dobro, Epiphone, and most others. Information is always a good thing, IMHO.... I just remembered what I was looking for. There was just a 1938 OOO-42 on Antiques Road Show tonight. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to it's appraised value?
Answer:
This was a repeat, but there was nothing said about the back graft, or the back strip, which I think is what you mean by graft. The appraiser said the back strip is there to improve sound? Jim, that is the correct show. I was surprised when he said Adirondack was no longer available. There was a show a couple of years ago that had a low-end acoustic signed by Jimmi Hendrix that was pretty far off the mark, too. Hendrix, back strips, Adirondack.... the shoe is not where I go for guitar information. Hell, that's what rmmga is for. By the way, the guitar was beautiful. The appraisal was 25K.
