Question:
I need to complete my electronic drums sound/set up and get an amp (or amp/monitor). No need to even look at the Roland stuff. Yea, it's awesome and out of my price range at this time. I'm looking for something acceptable in sound (bass, I love a fat boy kick souind!!!!) but durable, and yes.....cheap in the cash amount. I'll probabnly try to find a used amp/monitor to even stretch the pocketbook more. Any suggestions? I have heard a keyboard amp is the best to get. Is this true?
Answer:
don't know what kind of volume you're looking for. If you're going to run through a PA, and you're just looking for a stage amp/monitor, you ought to check out the Behringer KX1200 keyboard amp. 120 watts, 15 woofer, 5 midrange, horn tweeter, 4-channel with effects and tape in/out loops. When I'm sitting next to mine with the channel volume at half and output volume at quarter, it moves the hair on my legs. It seems to be about half the price of anything comparable. At the $849 price point for a Roland amp - ESPECIALLY if you're playing live with full PA- I would with an IEM solution with a throne shaker. If you are playing them in a studio, I would go with a headphone amp and a nice pair of studio headphones. If you need the speaker solution for stage volume, and want to come in significantly cheaper than $850. Get a used QSC RMX850 amp, bridged mono into a generic 15/1 combo speaker. You should be able to do that for $450. However, at that point... I'd be willing to pony up the xtra dough for what I want. (And I'm a cheap scate bargain hunting mofo!!)
