Question:
I'm looking for a drum machine that sucks less than an SR16 does and isn't insanely difficult to figure out how to use. I'm ready to replace my Peavey DPM-3 keyboard with something more up to date, flexible, better sound and maybe a bit lighter. Semi-wieghted keys like peavey would be nice. The Peavey is a tank and works fine. I'd like something with some software and patch choices available though. I know that there's a world of possibilities and endless choices. I'm not really good at either midi or playing the piano, but that's what I intend to do with them. Any suggestions to look at?
Answer:
What is it about the SR16 that you think sucks? It isn't very hard to use. If you don't like some of the sounds, that's what the MIDI ports are for. If you already own a SR16, a hardware or software sampler would be a better buy - you could broaden your palette of available sounds without ditching your current investment. For a drum machine why not check out the Boss DR-770. It's got some nice sounds if you play around with it, all for under $400. Drum machines are still always drum machines, so nothings gonna sound as good as the real thing. as for keyboards, I can't personally comment, i just use my alesis qsr and my roland d-20 as a controler. I havn't done any research into keyboards lately.
