Question:
I'm looking for a software which can arrange samples in a way like MIDI sequencers do. That means tempo and quantisiation must be available. I'd like to use it for putting several drumssounds together to a complete drum groove. Any ideas what I could use?
Answer:
If you just want to put drum samples together to make a drum track, I would suggest a mod tracker like Fast Tracker 2. But if you're wanting to actually play the drum samples, and then use the program to quantize them, sorry, I have no idea... But if you could play the rhythm into a sequencer, then you could use a program like Audio Compositor to realize the midi file with your drum samples. No, you're right. Meanwhile I've found a tool providing excactly what I need (ACID by Sound Forge) but this horrible prices..... Anyway I'll check Audio Compositor. Search for a program called HAMMER (br Bram Bros I think). This is a great little program for making grooves and beats. It doesn't let you quantisize (I don't think it does) but for making grooves it rocks. Mail me if you can't find it, and I'll see if I can dig up the link for you, or I'll slap it up on my site so you can download it. Its not midi based, but you can string measures together and loop them to form a drum track and export as a WAV.
