Ludwig & Ludwig?

Tagged As: Ludwig Drum Serial Numbers

Question:
Anybody know Ludwig dating and model info by serial numbers? Or if you could just tell me what my shells are - the numbers start with 6XXXX on all of the 7 toms and bass drums. I bought these used a few years ago and I'm looking to sell now but I need a value for these. Looks like 5 ply maple, 8 to 16 floor, 22x16 double bass drums, and heavy duty hardware. Nearest I can figure is the kit was new in the 80's when this type of kit was popular. What's it worth - be objective no delicate ego here. Again the serials start with 619, 609, 600XXXXX, etc. So I'm guessing '86 but I want to know for sure. Any help is appreciated and any interest in the kit please let me know I'll answer questions send pics whatever. Drop me an email or reply here .

Answer:
I have often used this link: http://www.vintagedrum.com/ludwig_serials.htm I do not know the people who run the website/ store, but that is pretty straight forward and I believe it to be accurate. ludwig and ludwig was the original ludwig drum company from 1910 until it was sold to conn in 1929. the name stayed ludwig and ludwig until 1950 when conn merged the ludwig and leedy drum companies together, to form leedy and ludwig. so the quick answer is 1910 to 1950.
