Question:
I need a favor please: if anyone during there travels to their local drumstores happens to come across any red handle, ratchet, Ludwig drum keys, please let me know. I had two that I had been using since the 70's and both of them recently went into the Twilight Zone'. I visited Ludwig's website and made a few calls to some drum shops....it appears that these keys are no longer manufactured.
Answer:
There's a reason they don't make them anymore. They suck now. I've had several that stripped out or had the square round out inside. If you really want a good ratchet style key, look into the Gambal. It's bigger, it's a little more expensive, but it's much better than the Ludwig. No I don't. I haven't even seen the infomercial for it, and I'm up late. Was it designed by Ron Popeil or was Ludwig trying to find a way to make a product that could suck at four things? That being said, I've been playing Ludwig 8A sticks that I picked up for $1.50 a pair. It's been quite refreshing in that every stick is different and I needed a challenge to wake me up. Gee you're in a piss and vinegar mood today! Your post had me laughing. Actually that 4 way key has saved my ass as it really works at tightning the wingscrew on the hi hat and the one on the BD pedal so they don't loosen.....AND this tool allows for tightening with out scratching the hardware . ( the stick comment was cruel....fair....but cruel)
