Question:
A freind of mine has just been given a (what he describes) to be a lap steel guitar.... I know Paul Franklin plays a pedal steel guitar, and I believe I have seen him play a lap steel.... Does anyone know of any good books?? or any pointers on how to play the Lap/Pedal steel?? Any help appreciated
Answer:
three guys he should listen to for inspiration would be David Lindley, Ben Harper and Junior Brown (Junior's Guit-Steel is half Fender guitar, half Fender lap steel). David Lindley: WIN THIS RECORD, EL RAYO-X, VERY GREASY; Jackson Browne's RUNNING ON EMPTY and HOLD OUT Ben Harper: THE WILL TO LIVE, BURN TO SHINE (also check out the December 1999 Guitar Player cover story, and his DADDAD tuning, I've been expermenting with this tuning and having a ball with it) Junior Brown: 12 SHADES OF BROWN, GUIT WITH IT, SEMI-CRAZY and most unexpected good lap steel solo from someone you would have never thought: Sammy Hagar. That's him playing the slide solo on Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter, using a 50's Gibson lap steel made of Korina wood.
