Yamaha Drum Pad question

Tagged As: Yamaha Drum Pad

Question:
I need a small set of drum pads that I can use for putting drum parts into my midi sequencers. Someone has a yamaha DD-6 which sounds like what I'm looking for, but this person knows nothing about what the unit does and can't answer my questions. If anyone has any experience with this item, could you please contact me via email? What I need is a set of pads that can be easily remaped to whasever midi note numbers I need, and of course, velocity sensitity.

Answer:
Why not call Yamaha and ask the source. That's what I do when I've got technical questions that I need answers for. Don't know about the DD-6, but the Yamaha DD-11 is an good low-cost solution to programmable velocity sensitive pads. It has 8 pads which can be programmed to MIDI note numbers 1 thru 40 only (means you have to configure your drum machine accordingly), and has one memory location for the user programmed configuration. It also has built in speakers, 40 internal sounds, and 99 patterns, which can be played back as drums only or drums/bass/chords. I suspect the DD-6 has even less capability. You should check your local pawn shops and music stores - I found used ones for $50 - $75, plus an ac adapter. If you can afford more money, get a used Roland Octapad, which will give you much more capability (but no sounds) and bigger pads.
