Question:
I am trying to decide between the Roland Electronic Stage Set (which includes PD-9 pads, TD-7T sound module, etc.) and the Yamaha DS11 electronic drumset. I am interested in responses from people who have owned or tried either or (preferably) both. The set up will be used for quieter practicing and recording at home. Playability and durability are more important to me than other considerations.
Answer:
Offering my opinion, and before all the others jump in and say why aren't you considering Ddrum? given a choice between those two I would, and did, choose the Yamaha. Prices on both are similar. I liked the Yamaha for two reasons: 1) I was much more impressed with the DTX brain, as being (again, my opinion!) easier to program, more flexible, more sounds available. I think the Yamaha sounds are just as good as the Roland, I know some will disagree. 2) Although both use hard rubber pads for triggers, the Yamaha pads felt softer, not as hard on my wrists. I have tried playing the Roland hard pads and found that my hands were very tired after only half an hour, I've not had that same experience with the Yamaha. I do own the Yamaha and love it, so I may be biased, but I only made the purchase after seriously considering the Roland kit.
