Yamaha Stage Custom Drums

Tagged As: Yamaha Stage Custom Drum

Question:
I noticed an ad in my January MD about this new series of drums by Yamaha. Does anyone have any info on these for me? What sets of Yamaha do they fall in between? Whats the price? How do they match up to other comapnies drums of the same caliber?

Answer:
I think they are replacing the Club Custom, or are just below. If they had both lines, though, I think they would be crowding their market... anyway, I think they use a bunch of tropical hardwoods in the shells, I think they manufacture in Indonesia or something. I'd buy Premier's instead, stay away from new drums in tropical woods....... just my environmental rant They are made from a combination of Birch/Mahogany/Falkata, and have a stain/laquer finish. They are available in four colors: Raven Black, Chestnut Brown, Cranberry Red, and Marina Green. MSRP for a standard 5 pc kit is around $1000. Although these represent entry level Yamaha, IMHO these drums are comparable to Yamaha's Recording Customs in many ways, and defintely outshine other manufacturers entry level products. I have to add some comments here. I appreciate your enthusiasm for your company's products, but they are no way similar to recording custom other than they aren't a wrap finish. These are certainly a fine entry level drum kit, but come on. The finish is ok, not great, the interior of the shells is very rough, again fine for a entry level kit, but no where near a recording custom. BTW, the retail is 1190.00 Sorry Randy, I have really enjoyed your comments, but I had to respond.
