Guitar stand + Ric guitar= Chlorine finish damage?

Tagged As: Fender Guitar Stand

Question:
The Rickenbacker owners manual says: Chlorine is responsible anytime a guitar's finish appears to melt, dissolve, or appear tacky. Unfortunately, many imported guitar stand bumpers, emit chlorine and other chemicals which can seriously damage a guitar's finish. how does one tell a chlorine rubber bumper from a non-chlorine rubber bumper? I know of two basic types of guitar stands: those with black foam rubber bumpers, and those with sort of amber colored (kinda like surgical/lab tubing) rubber bumpers.

Answer:
Rickenbackers really do tend to be sensitive to those damn Chlorine stands. The Yellow ones are the ones to watch for, really. Think you're OK with the black foam. I have seen black guitars especially susceptible to this phenomenon.
