1965 Fender Mustang ...Price?????

Tagged As: Fender Mustang Guitar For Sale

Question:
How much should I pay for a 1965 Fender Mustang in parts and not so good condition??? And how much would one go for if it was put together in decent condition??? The person selling it wants to sand it down and refinish it, but as soon as I talk to her I'll try to talk her out of that and to sell it as is.

Answer:
Elderly's vintage instrument catalog for this month has 3 Fender Mustangs for sale, all in very good condition + to excellent condition. Their dates, and the prices are: 1966 = $800 1973 = $775 1977 = $650 (no vibrato on this one) If you can get it from her intact, in not-so-good condition, I would say $550 - 700 would be a fair ballpark considering it's vintage.

I just saw a vintage 1965 fender mustang go for over 2,000.00 on EBAY. This is a regular occurance. even ones made in the 1970's are hitting 1,000. These guitars are respected little by serious collectors, but the damand for them is huge. pricing books means little to nothing it seems. any comments, maybe i'm wrong?
