Question:
I was wondering how the fender toronado compared to other fenders (am. st, mex st, cyclone) in price, playability, and sound.
Answer:
i've got one as well. the playability is pretty good. the sound is also pretty good, but i find that the stock pickups sound a little bit dull (or maybe its my lame solid state amp). i think its a very solidly built guitar. . . the tuners are good, same with the bridge. separate tone and volume knobs are great, gives alot of control over the instrument's tonality. i think they probably could have been selling for less though. i got mine for around $500 about a year ago. i don't think they have come down much (if any at all). mexican made strats and teles go for about $300 new at most stores. i think the tornado would have been more reasonably priced if it would sell for about $400 (kind of like the cyclone). if i had to buy it over again? well, i don't know. it depends on what other options i had. i fell in love with the jazzmaster's body shape (that is partly what drew me to this guitar, but believe me, this is no jazzmaster). i think if i could have found an old used one i might have gotten that instead. otherwise, i might have looked at the american made telecasters for $100 more. go play some in yr local shop and see what you think. i think it plays really well, of course, i'm kind of sloppy anyway.
