Is the bass another transposing instrument like the guitar?

Tagged As: Notes On A Bass Guitar

Question:
I have a classical guitar. The lowest string is an E. What are the notes of the strings on the bass compared to that low E on the guitar. Is the bass another transposing instrument like the guitar. Are note played an octave lower than as written?

Answer:
Bass guitar: tuned 8va lower than guitar, strings 6,5,4,3. Yes, unless the arranger/copyist thinks you enjoy counting leger lines below the staff.
