Does anyone actually prefer vintage bass guitars and amps to what's out on the market these days?

Answer:
In my opinion,the new Fender Bass guitars are good for the garbage. The Fender re-issues play and sound NOTHING like the originals. They play like trees.The Ken Smith's,Padulla's,Tobias's,etc.don't do it for me either.....too metalic and fake sounding.If I had to buy a new bass guitar it would be an Ernie Ball Musicman 4 string.....then again I find the Musicman's to sound great in a room by themselves.With the band,they become muddy and don't cut very easily.

    As a thirty year veteran pro bass player, all I can say is I would never play anything but a pre CBS fender bass. I always get compliments on my sound .

    I totally agree with comments made about vintage bass gear. As a musician playing since the 60's I'm always wishing I had my '65 Fender Jazz bass and my Standel bass amp; what a sound!
