Question:
I am wanting to build a resonator guitar in the style of the National Duolian or Triolian models. I am talking about the wooden versions. I have been inside the metal versions doing repairs and etc. but I don't have any idea how the wooden models are put together. I am pretty sure that they're not made the same as the Dobro resonators are, with the sound chamber and all. I guess what I'm after is a set of plans or maybe just someone who knows, to discuss it with. I you have plans, know where to get them or just have some helpfull information, I'd love to here from you
Answer:
I am a repairman first and a builder next. Open up a wooden resonator guitar of most any type, and you will be surprised at how cheaply and slap dashly they are put together. But the paint covers it all just fine. I guess 99% of the tone is the cone. Sounds like a slogan. It seems that if solid tonewoods were used, a new sound could come of it. I dont know of any measured plans available, but that just means you need to buy one like the one you have in mind building. I would just order all the metal parts and start building, based on the shape you like. email me on your progress, there aren't enough wooden builders on this net. sincerely, dave
