I like the Ladder overall, but it took time to grow on me. Wondering what others thought about the guitar on the Ladder. The acoustic and steel guitar parts are fine. I think some of the electric parts are too low in the mix, and the cd lacks any definitive solo. There are some cool parts, but alot of the guitar parts do not really move me emotionally.

Answer:
I don't like much of the guitar work on this album. A lot of Howe's acoustic playing is simple chords and patterns he could have whipped up in his sleep and his electric stuff is way too processed and, as you say, too low in the mix. I want that big, fat sound!
