What's the difference between Fender Custom Shop and CBS production line?

Tagged As: Fender Custom Shop

Question:
Seems like the team-built is actually a kind of mass production line with methods and tools similarly to what used during the CBS era, and that the master built is what used to be the real custom shop. And that most likely a lot of the parts used for the team-built custom shop in Corona are the same as the mass production line in Corona (bridge, keys, pickups, pickguard etc.)

Answer:
for instance - you have to get to the 'master built' level to actually get a true custom made guitar. (if you want a neck that is not regular modern 'c' shape or vintage 62 thinner, etc. if they make something that they can obtain mass produced then they will simply pick those parts from the bin and use 'em). In the master built series you can actually send them a neck to copy exactly. You can even send them an ibanez neck from the early 80's (12 in. radius, 1 5/8 inch nut, slim taper soft C shape) and they will copy it exactly to a Fender labeled neck for your custom order, etc.
