Are there any software guitar effects that work in real time for PC? (prefrebly free). I have a slow computer, Pentium 1, 233 Mhz, with 96 meg ram. and am looking for a stand alone program. Not a direct X plugin that requires Sonar or some other host. In other words can my slow PC replace a multi effects unit?

Answer:
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my computer (AMD Athon 800, 128mb ram, 20 gig HD) won't run the Revalver demo at good quality and (near) zero latency which is really what you want from effects. This program is similar to the Line6 Pod in function.
